Quiet time with Jesus

This morning, I had a rare moment of quiet — before the kids woke up, before the light crept in, before the rush of the day began. Just peaceful stillness with Jesus.
I’ve always loved those sweet, intimate moments with Him, but since becoming a wife, a mom, and a homeschool teacher, these quiet pauses have grown even sweeter… and even more needed.

I wrote the poem below to capture what I was feeling. It’s often hard to put these moments into words. As I sat drinking my coffee and talking with Him, I realized that I’ve become so familiar with that quiet, calming whisper of God—the gentle voice of the Holy Spirit on my heart—that I sometimes forget to be in awe of who is speaking.
The One who parts seas and holds the stars is the same One who sits with me in the stillness. And in that quiet reflection, the words began to flow.

UNDONE

Awake me in the morning, while the dew still glistens;
In this silence, teach my heart to listen.

In the stillness, I wait upon Your voice—
A soft whisper on my heart that drowns out all the noise.

You calmed the waves and parted seas,
And yet You come and dine with me.
You spoke to the prophets, the higher called,
Walked with Adam—yet You’re a friend to all.

Your mighty hand upholds the stars,
Yet You came and sat with the lowest of them all.
Where else would I rather be,
Than when You come and sit with me?

Your mighty hand could crush the nations,
Banish the sinful, evil of men.
Your voice could roar in rushing power—
So why then
Do You whisper soft, so sweet,
Humble, gentle, mild, and meek?

Stir the dreams that lay forgotten,
Everything You’ve spoken—remind me what You have for me.
Open my eyes; cause me to see.
I don’t want to go back to the start—
I want to move forward to what’s coming,
With the secrets of Your heart.

Stay with me in the stillness, Lord;
Let Your presence be my song.
You whisper on my heart again—
And I am undone.

These are just some of the ways to describe Him. It would take me all day to fully put it into words, and even then, I wouldn’t come close. So this is my challenge to myself and whoever is taking time to read this: Take the time—take the time to sit and listen, to be quiet, to hear what is being spoken on your heart. It won’t be wasted time, you won’t regret it later. Just allow yourself to sink into that sweet, sweet time with the Lord.

Psalm 27:7-8
[7]  Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud; be gracious to me and answer me! [8] You have said, “Seek my face.” My heart says to you, “Your face, Lord, do I seek.”

Hebrews 4:16
[16] Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Psalm 16:11
[11] You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Psalm 145:3-6
[3] Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable. [4] One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts. [5] On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate. [6] They shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds, and I will declare your greatness

  1. Oh my…. Be still my heart … I can feel the weight of this and it takes me in.
Thank you for sharing your heartfelt thoughts. This was a great way for me to start my day and I wonder if you’re okay with me printing this and sharing it with the girls in the jail. We just talked about this yesterday.
