A Piece of Me

Hey everyone! I recently felt led to start a blog. I’ve been wanting a space to share creative writings, poems, and short devotions for a while now but hadn’t found the courage. My prayer is that something in these posts will bless and encourage others in similar walks of life. I want you to feel free to comment below with suggestions, your own encouragement, or even a testimony of what God has done in your life. If you’re reading this, thank you for coming on this journey with me—I hope you enjoy!

To start out, I’m sharing a poem I wrote recently and then I’ll be posting weekly

What do they see?

As water reflects the sky and the trees,
Do people see You—mirrored in me?
When they look my way, what do they see?
A life that changed… because You changed me?

Does my walk make them hungry for more,
Or does it make them turn, lock the door?
What was it about Jesus that pulled people close,
That broke their chains, healed what hurt the most?

I don’t want to preach from a distance,
or shout down from my stance—
I want to show love that breathes freedom,
that moves hearts to dance.

We’ve all been broken, all lost our way,
so what can I do, what can I say?
To make them see the difference You made when You came,
to bring light to the dark, to rewrite their pain.

We can’t stay stuck, singing songs in the walls,
while outside the hurting still call.
We’ve got to go—
to the streets, the corners, the quiet despair,
to show them Jesus is real,
that He’s still there.

Be the light.
Be the hope.
Be the proof He remains.
Don’t just tell them—
Show them
why Jesus came.

Be the difference.
Be the change.

I was inspired to write this particular piece out of my own urgency to see people come to Jesus. I’ve been saved since 2015. Although I grew up in a Christian home and my mom did a good job raising me, I still spent part of my early twenties running from God—running from my calling. During those years, even though I was distant from God myself, I still felt a deep urge to reach those who did not know Him.

In 2015 when I finally stopped running from God, I was able to follow the call He put on my life and the biggest thing I’ve learned from every experience since, is how little I had to do with any of it—and how much God moved in each moment. This helped me overcome my fear of praying out loud, talking to strangers, and going into unfamiliar areas. Just knowing that the Holy Spirit was accompanying me, and that all I had to do was let Him do the talking, made everything so much easier.

Through these short blog posts, I hope not only to encourage others in their walk with God, but also to help people step beyond their comfort zones—to love others right where they are, in their communities, outside their churches—and to bring Jesus to the streets.

Matthew 28:19–20

> 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

Luke 19:10

> For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.

  1. This is some of the most beautifully written, heartfelt and moving words I have read. I relate with what you have written and appreciate your willingness to be publicly vulnerable because it is something we need to put out there to know we are not alone in the daily struggle to crucify our flesh and to be reminded what this walk is all about. Thank you for sharing the gift of words that the Lord placed within you. 💓 Looking forward to more

  2. I love all of this especially the poem! Looking forward to reading more and maybe sharing more myself! Love you Jo!
